The Five Wounds of Christ

The Five Wounds
by Roy Heiney

"He was wounded for our transgressions" -Isaiah 53:5a

If it had not been for us, there would have been no Calvary.

If it had not been for Him, there would have been no Calvary.

How many wounds can a person medically suffer? Five

1)A Contused Wound - one that results from a blow delivered by an instrument that's not sharp. Matthew 26:67 (buffeting and smoting)

2)A Laceration - the kind of wound produced by a tearing instrument. Matthew 27:26 (scourging) / Isaiah 52:13-14 [See my article on "Flagellation" at RayMcAlister.com]

3)A Penetrating Wound - a wound produced by a sharp-pointed instrument. Matthew 27:29 (the crown of thorns) / more smoting too in v.30

4)A Perforating Wound - the kind of wound caused when the instrument pierces right through. John 19:18 (when they pierced His hands and feet)

5)An Incision - a wound resulting from a cut produced by a sharp-edged instrument such as a
knife. John 19:34 (the last indignity recorded to the body of Christ- an incision w/ a Roman spear)

What did Jesus have after His resurrection? A new body
What did He have on that body? The scars still
Could He have a body free of them? Yes, He could
He carries those scars to the wonder of the redeemed and all the hosts of Heaven.
Those scars are possibly the only man-made things in Heaven.
HE LOVES US!!!!

There's a song that says, "The cross said it all." With all due respect, the cross didn't
say it all. Not taking anything away from the cross (and Jesus' shed blood and His death), He suffered unspeakably BEFORE the cross.

"He was wounded for our transgressions" - Isaiah 53:5a.

EBC Unknown in Brandon

Here is the problem: Although Emmaus Baptist College is over 50 years old and has been in Brandon for around 20 years, few people in Brandon are even aware that the college exists. In your opinion, what can the college do to make Brandon know we are here?

Rebuilding the Altar

"Building the Altar

"This past 9th of the Hebrew month Av the Temple Institute began construction of the outer altar.

"The construction of the Temple Altar began on the day of the destruction of the Holy Temple Tisha Bav 1939 years later.

"The Temple Institute, the only organization in the world devoted to the rebuilding of the Holy temple, has been working for the past 25 years on restoration and recreation of various temple vessels. The institute has already recreated the Menora, Showbread Table, incense altar, Levitical musical instruments, Priestly vestments and several other Temple objects. For the first time in 2000 years the institute has decided to construct the center piece of the Holy Temple – The Outer- Stone-Altar.

"The center core of the Divine daily service in the Holy Temple was without doubt the offerings on the Outer Stone Altar.

"The opening and conclusion of the Daily service every morning and evening was the Tamid public offering. Aside from the Tamid people would be coming from all over the world to bring their personal offerings- sin offerings, peace offerings, burnt offerings etc…
The Altar stood in the center of the courtyard of the Holy Temple.

"The construction began last Thursday Tisha Bav – the day marking the mourning over the destruction of the Temple. Several hundred people participated in this ceremony. The beginning of rebuilding concluded a period of two months of collecting stones from the Dead Sea for this project.

"We at the Temple Institute hope to continue our efforts until the actual rebuilding of the Holy Temple and renewing the Divine Service of God as soon as possible."

The above was taken from the Temple Institute in Jerusalem. What, if any, significance does the rebuilding of the great altar have?
